What we believe

We are a United Methodist congregation with wide open doors and a strong belief in the bigness of God’s love.

Our Story Begins

In 1834 circuit rider Bradford Frazee held the first United Methodist service in Flint. The following year, William Brockway, of the Saginaw Mission, established regular services in Walt Beach’s barroom. In 1836 the class of nine persons organzied as the Flint River Mission in a room above the stage and Wright store. In 1841 the Genesee County Board of Commissioners deed the property of what became the First United Methodist Episcopal Church, the oldest organzied religious group in the city of Flint. The congregation’s first church was built in 1842. After it burned in 1861, another church was built in 1888. The church had another fire in 1892. The current third building was dedicated in 1894.

 Our Story Continues

As we seek the grace, wisdom and strength of the Lord in our lives, we are pursuing to be more like Him. Gathering together in one place to worship and give praise to one God who loves us. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” — John 3:16
